Oh you guys, I am gushing over this wedding. And I have no place to really gush right now, except to Pete and here at my blog – the kids have their own things to do. I don’t know if it was driving through all that lovely North Carolina country getting to this wedding, if it was using the camera and the surf as my coffee on the morning of this wedding, if it was the way it thought about raining and didn’t – but something about Ben and Allie’s wedding came together more than any other wedding I’ve ever shot.
Ben and Allie knew they were meant for each other from the very first time they met, when Allie was in eighth grade. They spoke the same language, and they fell in love talking. Their love is an easy love, one that speaks of comfort and familiarity, that let the two of them walk into their day and spend it with those who loved them. I got to meet them here in Charleston for their engagement session in June, and when I saw them again at their wedding, they both warmly welcomed me into their lives for the day.
This wedding was one of the sweetest I’ve ever had the joy of shooting. Ben is so different with Allie than he is with anyone else, and she absolutely adores her guy. I got to watch Allie go from girl to bride to wife in less than 24 hours, and watched Ben step into a role that anybody looking on could tell was meant for him from the moment he met this girl. There were some rollicking fun moments, and some terrifically tender moments too – all of the good things that weddings are made of, with none of the stress that so often comes.
These two are the real deal, and their wedding? Oh man. You have GOT to see. (And by “GOT to see,” I mean you’d better not miss the slideshow I’ve included at the bottom here!)

This photo release is absolutely the HARDEST release I have ever, ever done for a wedding. And I mean “hardest” because this wedding was INCREDIBLE. And I am really not good at editing down my stories. I allow myself up to 25 images for a photo release post, and I had over a hundred images that I felt I just HAD to have to tell this story.
So what did I do? I created a slideshow is what I did. And you HAVE to see it. Because I’m happy-dancing over here with this one. It’s the gift I wanted to give them from the time Ben’s mom first tweeted about their wedding location – and it’s the gift I’ve wanted to give every bride and groom I’ve ever shot.
So watch it, by clicking HERE, or on the image below. And enjoy it. It’s making ME cry.

Beautiful images, Kelly. After the violent house-shaking earlier this morning, coming here was like landing in a calm oasis.

Ah, a good date. The anniversary of my own marriage…
These images have a literal depth to them that draw me in. A new lens? Or some photographic genius of sorts? Either way, they are beauties.
Blessings.

Your creativity encourages me into creativity. That first picture… wowza… tells a story all it’s own, it is absolutely captivating.
Was this the wedding you used the 1.2 lens? *drool* I can see why you loved it, although with your talent with light, I think you probably could have taken my 28-300mm 3.5-5.6 and done the same incredible work. (it’s the photographer, not the camera :))

Happy tears for this sweet couple! Clearly they had a beautiful day, and the world’s best photographer to capture it :D
Wow Kelly, you outdid yourself! This is my favorite wedding you’ve done thus far! Lovely.
