Mood Board: Saturday Morning in August

I have been learning a lot about my style this year. A lot a lot. I’ve been learning what colors I like, why and when I like them, what sort of feeling I want to create in my home, what kind of clothes I love to wear. I didn’t know I had really defined a style until I walked into Forever 21 to go shopping and came out with many the same colors, styles, and fabrics I already had at home, in spite of everything I had loved as I was shopping.

So there’s been this whole discovery thing going on in my world, and I’ve really been enjoying it. Do you know, I have always loved quilts? I like putting odd pieces together, similar colors, interesting patterns (I’m still holding out hope that stripes + florals are going to make a big statement in the style world someday!). Thanks to years of thrift-shopping, my decorating style has been more quilt-like than organized, and while I dream of someday having everything I need to make a very white, very pretty, very classic-and-minimal home, my current home falls more into the “cozy” category than the “fresh” category.

Wow, I’m rambly today. ANYWAY.

I have a habit (here I go again with the rambling!) of using my camera like coffee in the mornings. I shoot completely according to mood, and it can produce some really random images. But as I was looking over these “random” images I shot last Saturday, I realized I had created a bit of a “quilt” in the late summer colors that make me HAPPY in August.

I’m kind of in love with my house, with my town, and with the summer slipping away into autumn as the light turns sooner than I expected back into the angles of my favorite memories. I’ve got a new (or perhaps not-so-new) idea for my blog, and it has me very happy – instead of letting “photography” take me over here, I want to write it as a “lifestyle” blog, with colors and pictures and moments and anythingandeverything that catches my eye. I need a place to play, where I don’t have to be business all the time, and where coffee is a color sometimes, instead of a crutch.

I’ve been trying to turn my blog more into a “lifestyle” blog too. I guess it always has been, but now that I’ve merged them, I try to keep that in focus. Although I’ve not been able to really “write” anything the last few weeks. Lots of pictures though! I love these rosy colors!

I still like I”m still trying to put my style together. I call my style “classy bohemian.” Yes, I had to name it! I do better with the classy than bohemian part. I’d like to move a bit more into the bohemian direction, but I have a hard time putting contrasting colors/patterns together sometimes. But I’m working on being better at mixing. :) It’s fun though, huh!?

I wouldn’t have guessed Bohemian for you, maybe a little vintage? It’s weird to be our age and figuring out stuff girls in junior high knew… :-P

I have no clue what my style is. I do love the colors on my blog, but am not sure what that means. Your photos are gorgeous. I love the idea of coffee as a color!

I love your colors, soft and welcoming. Always appreciate your blog and honesty. Take care
(we are actually thinking of painting our two story house, coffe/cocoa brown with cream trim or black trim or both)
